Why is network tuning the first choice for IT managers?

Often a company’s network manager faces performance issues, even though he has invested over time on the best equipment and best available bandwidth. Instability and constant crashes, among other issues, affect applications and reduce productivity. But what could be wrong after all? Will it be necessary to invest even more?

The answer is certainly “no”, as equipment can often be underused or misconfigured. Nap IT Network Tuning can detect these issues by diagnosing and “calibrating” the corporate network, eliminating new investments, preserving a good legacy and easing the IT budget.

While most market players will recommend switching network components, network specialist Nap IT takes a different approach. “We don’t want to be the integrator who just wants to push equipment [to the customer], which is common in the market. We want to be trusted”, says Marcelo Veriato Lima, Data Center Engineer at Nap IT.

The Network Tuning goal is to promote an entire architecture review, identifying problems and avoiding unnecessary equipment replacement. It gives your network a new life by greatly increasing performance – the average gain is 50%, but can be much more.

Other companies suffer from network performance issues as they forget the required consistency, meaning new equipment is “scrambling up” in disarray and without considering the initial architecture. Without the entire environment visibility, failures that initially tolerate but become snowball begin to occur.

But how does Network Tuning work?

It all starts with the Assessment application, an “environment x-ray that identifies failure points, obsolete equipment, and bottlenecks, determining where the network overload is”, Veriato explains.

The fundamental point is to have the full structure view. And not just the network: security, applications, storage, database, operating systems, among other data center elements and remote locations such as offices and units. With this complete infrastructure design it is possible to identify the failure points and improvement for the network.

“Based on this information we conducted the design workshop”, says the expert. “We propose a reference architecture draft, and this draft we try to match that of the applications. Infrastructure is the foundation for adherence.”

Veriato cites as an example a three-tier environment, where only one of them is overloaded. In order not to have to increase every application resource, only that layer gets improvements. The work is always done “four hands” with the customer, after all his considerations are fundamental to understand the business needs.

Results

The infrastructure improvements suggested by Assessment sometimes require investments such as equipment replacement, but Nap IT prioritizes work on architecture. Still considering the company’s future plans: where does the organization want to go, how much will it grow next year? Will the current network infrastructure hold up?

As a Network Tuning result, the network becomes more stable, faster, applications run better and security increases – after all, a well-aligned architecture reduces breaches and failures, shielding the infrastructure.

“Because this work involves everything, not just network, but all infrastructure, the gains are many. Troubleshooting is much easier, and response time is much faster”, concludes the engineer.
